Acceptable Use Policy

Effective 27 October 2026

OpenIntern is an AI agent that works inside your Excel workbooks, PowerPoint decks and Word documents. This policy applies to everyone who uses the OpenIntern add-in, the hosted OpenIntern service or the OpenIntern software. The usage policies of the AI provider whose key you use also apply to every request, for example the OpenAI usage policies and the Anthropic usage policy.

You may not use OpenIntern to

  1. Break the law or help anyone else break it, including fraud, money laundering, sanctions evasion, or securities violations such as producing false or misleading financial statements, filings or investor materials.
  2. Present AI-generated figures, forecasts or analysis as audited, verified or company-issued when they are not, or attribute assumptions to a company that did not make them.
  3. Create or spread content that is hateful or harassing, sexually exploits minors, incites violence or promotes self-harm.
  4. Infringe intellectual property or privacy rights, including processing personal data you have no right to process or sending confidential data to a provider your organisation has not approved.
  5. Create malware, macros or documents designed to harm, deceive or exploit the people who open them, or embed hidden instructions meant to manipulate other AI systems.
  6. Attack, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the hosted service to get around its limits or security, or use it as a general-purpose gateway to AI providers outside the add-in. Good-faith security research reported to security@openintern.ai is welcome.
  7. Share, sell or use API keys you are not authorised to use.
  8. Make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on people (for example about credit, employment, housing or insurance) based only on OpenIntern output, without human review.

Your responsibilities

Reporting harmful or incorrect output

If OpenIntern produces offensive, harmful or dangerously wrong output, email report@openintern.ai with:

Leave out confidential document content unless you are comfortable sharing it. The thumbs-down button in the pane records your rating on your device only; it does not reach us, so please email us as well.

We acknowledge reports within two business days and act on them as quickly as we can, for example by changing OpenIntern's instructions or safeguards. Because the answer comes from your chosen provider's model, we may also suggest that you report it to that provider.

Enforcement

We may limit, suspend or block use of the hosted service that breaks this policy. The open-source software runs on your own computer under the Apache License 2.0; this policy still describes uses we do not support, and your provider's policies still apply.
